Cattle Scan, one of the six exciting startup companies that participated in DFA’s 2022 CoLAB Accelerator program, a 90-day immersive program to grow ag-tech startups, helps dairy farmers track numerous health and reproductive parameters of dairy cows to optimize herd management and increase milk production.  

In early October, DFA participated in the global dairy industry’s leading cattle show and expo — World Dairy Expo — in Madison, Wis., where it has been held annually for more than 50 years.

Employees from the DFA plant in Garden City, Kan., made a positive impact in their community by volunteering at the local Salvation Army over the course of two days in September, finishing up the Cooperative’s give-back efforts for Hunger Action Month strong. 

Calving is a normal part of life on a dairy farm — in fact, DFA family dairy farmer Bruce Gibson, owner of Locust Hill Dairy in Mannsville, N.Y., says roughly 10 calves are born each day on his farm. For most people, though, witnessing the miracle of new life is not a daily occurrence.

Terry Canning and Andrew Askew founded CattleEye in 2019 to provide dairy farmers with livestock monitoring solutions that can help them become more efficient and improve the lives of their herds. The system monitors livestock using video analytics powered by artificial intelligence — and farmers can more effectively monitor their herd’s well-being as a result.

Chank’s Grab-N-Go, a family-owned snack food company based out of Millville, N.J., recently partnered with Associated Wholesale Grocers (AWG) to expand retail sales of its snack products in U.S. grocery stores.   

June 23 is International Women in Engineering Day, a day dedicated to celebrating women in engineering roles and raising awareness about career opportunities for women in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields.

For the last 65 years, the Vermont Dairy Festival has been the unofficial kickoff to summer in Enosburg Falls, Vt. Put on by the local Lions Club, the festival not only celebrates the Vermont dairy industry, but also celebrates the local community. One of the festival’s hallmark events is the Vermont Dairy Pageant Scholarship Contest, which DFA sponsored part of this year.
