Melvin has been dairying since 1981 on the farm started by his father. In 2007, Melvin and his wife, Kelley, started Medeiros Holsteins to diversify their operations and capitalize on the opportunity to market milk through DFA. One of Melvin’s sons, Melvin Jr., works on the 1,600-cow dairy, as well as owns his own dairy. Melvin’s youngest son manages the 550 acres of double-crop wheat and corn to supply all the dairy’s silage needs. Melvin serves as chair of the Agricultural Council of California’s Dairy Committee and is on the California Cares and Environmental Justice Fund Committee. He is a member of DFA’s Executive Committee. Melvin also serves on the National Milk Producers Federation Executive Committee.
