dairy farm families belonging to Dairy Farmers of America, Inc. (DFA)
work together to be the largest supplier of fresh, fluid milk in the world!
We’re proud of that!
Straight from farm to customer, DFA members provide the marketplace with more than 61.7 billion pounds of milk every year. That means DFA farmers deliver nearly 170 million pounds a day or 3,540 semi truckloads of milk to the market every day—that’s 287 million glasses of milk per day!
From
sun up to sun down and coast to coast, more than 19,514 producers on 12,078
farms in 48 states are dedicated to supplying America’s dinner (and
breakfast, lunch and snack) tables with milk. Their dairy operations range
in size from 10-cow herds to 10,000 cow herds. But no matter what size,
DFA’s member families know that quality control and herd health are
farm management priorities.
Milk
is the most tested food product in the United States
Human hands never touch the milk from the time it leaves the cow until it reaches consumers. On the farm, each bulk tank of milk is tested for quality, antibiotics and bacteria levels. At the processing plant, each truckload of milk is quality checked before the milk is unloaded into storage units specially designed to maintain milk in a sterile environment at proper temperatures.
In addition to those precautions, DFA’s manufacturing operations quality check finished products (like cheese) to ensure that customers and, ultimately, consumers are receiving the freshest tasting dairy products possible.
All milk delivered to the marketplace must meet DFA’s quality standards. DFA members are paid premiums in many markets for milk that far exceeds those standards.

Quality and excellence is everything in this business because DFA supplies some of the nation’s largest and most prestigious fluid milk bottlers in the United States. Among those customers are DFA’s fluid joint ventures—milk bottling companies in which DFA members maintain a profit-sharing relationship.
