DFA, DMS Join Local Farmers in Filing Objection to Dean Foods Settlement

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Dairy farmers who say attorneys representing them are not looking out for their best interests have filed opposition to the proposed settlement submitted in the class action antitrust lawsuit in the U.S. District Court in Burlington, Vt. Acting on behalf of its dairy farmer owners, Dairy Farmers of America, Inc. (DFA), together with Dairy Marketing Services, LLC (DMS), also has filed objections to this settlement.

Dairy Producers Convene for DFA Grazing Conference

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Approximately 175 producers and agribusiness professionals attended Dairy Farmers of America, Inc.’s (DFA) 2011 Grazing Conference held in Louisville, Ky., this week. The two-day event was presented by Dairy Grazing Services (DGS), a wholly owned subsidiary of DFA that provides resources and consulting services to producers interested in pasture-based dairying.

Scholarship Encourages Future Dairy Leaders

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Students striving to become future leaders in the dairy industry may be one step closer to their career goals with the help of Dairy Farmers of America, Inc.’s (DFA) annual DFA Cares Scholarship program. Since the program’s inception, DFA has awarded 28 scholarships totaling $42,000.

Currently in its fourth year, the program is open to students planning a career in dairy, either as a producer or in numerous related fields, such as veterinary medicine or dairy nutrition.

Springfield Employees Deliver Goodies to Local Students

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Throughout this holiday season, employees of Dairy Farmers of America, Inc. (DFA) have worked to demonstrate the Cooperative’s value of community. Today Springfield DFA employees are delivering goodies to first-grade students at York Elementary as part of their annual Shoe Box Santa Program.

Funds raised throughout the year are used to help fill backpacks with gloves, hats and ear warmers. In addition, the students receive a game, toy, coloring books, a $20 gift card to a local grocery store and more.

In connection with the recent conclusion of the U.S. Department of Justice/Department of Agriculture workshops on agriculture, Dairy Farmers of America, Inc. (DFA) members Lee Ramsburg of Gettysburg, Pa., (left) and David Crowl of Street, Md., (center) visited Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack. Ramsburg and Crowl delivered thousands of postcards signed by DFA members expressing support for their cooperative and the Capper-Volstead Act, as well as a petition signed by DFA employees describing the importance of cooperatives to the dairy industry.

Ventura Plant Earns Elite Safety Status

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Dairy Farmers of America, Inc.’s (DFA) Ventura, Calif., manufacturing plant has earned Star status in California's Voluntary Protection Program (Cal/VPP). This designation is the highest recognition bestowed by the program, which is administered by the California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal-OSHA).

The plant, which is operated by DFA’s Global Dairy Products Group (GDPG), becomes part of an accomplished minority with this achievement. It is one of just 82 sites in California to attain this level of recognition.
