Kansas City, Mo. - For the third time in 10 years, Dairy Farmers of America, Inc. (DFA) was named the 2007 “Contract Manufacturer of the Year” from Frito-Lay. DFA’s plant in Schulenburg, Texas, earned the honors for its commitment to quality, cost and service. The plant manufactures shelf-stable cheese and white dips and salsa, and has been supplying Frito-Lay for nearly two decades.

In 2007, DFA improved in all Key Performance Indicators (KPI), which focus on areas that have the biggest impact on process performance including productivity, efficiency and cost-savings. DFA also received Frito-Lay’s 2007 Quality Cup Award, for their consistency in producing top-quality products.

“We are proud of the Schulenburg team and their commitment to making the best products for Frito-Lay,” says Mark Korsmeyer, president of Dairy Food Products, a wholly-owned division of DFA. “Frito-Lay is a world-class company and it’s an honor not only to manufacture products for them, but to receive such a prestigious award.”

Frito-Lay selected DFA from among its 32 contract manufacturers. DFA previously won the award in 1997 and 1994, and also received a Service Award in 2006 and a Quality Award in 1999.

“Dips are a growing business for Frito-Lay, and DFA plays a critical role in manufacturing great products for our consumers,” says Bob Aurand, Frito-Lay’s vice president of contract manufacturing. “DFA rose to the top because of their outstanding results across all areas of accountability, such as productivity, improvement in quality, and delivering a high level of service to our customers.”

Since 1990, DFA’s Schulenburg plant has been working with Frito-Lay. In addition to the dips and salsa, DFA has supplied the snack food company with dairy ingredients and flavorings.

Frito-Lay North America is a snack division of PepsiCo and is headquartered in Plano, Texas.
