DFA Farmer Delegates Elect 2007 Board of Directors

March 30, 2007

Kansas City, Mo. - At the 2007 Annual Meeting of Dairy Farmers of America, Inc. (DFA) held last week in Kansas City, Missouri, 20 members were reelected to the cooperative’s 51-person Board of Directors. This year, four are new to DFA’s board.

The four newly seated board directors include: David Crowl of Street, Maryland; Glen Easter of Laurens, South Carolina; Larry Hancock of Muleshoe, Texas; and Ellis Roberts of Preston, Idaho.

Every year, members at the local level elect dairy farmers to represent them in DFA’s leadership and governance structure. DFA’s Board represents the interests of the member-owners, which are located within DFA’s seven geographic marketing areas. Board members provide direction, set policies, establish financial structure, approve capital budgets, and establish duties and responsibilities for DFA’s governance structure.

DFA’s directors are elected to serve two-year terms, which are staggered so that only a portion of the board is up for election annually. Those farmer-members, who were re-elected to DFA’s board at the 2007 Delegate Meeting (plus the four mentioned above), are:

  • Central Area – Steve Matthees of Goodhue, Minnesota; Doug Nuttelman of Stromsburg, Nebraska; Larry Shover of Delhi, Iowa; and Rob Wonderlich of Ollie, Iowa.
  • Mideast Area – Davis Denman of Cortland, Ohio; Don Gurtner of Fremont, Indiana; Urban Mescher of Maria Stein, Ohio; and Terry Rowlett of Campbellsburg, Kentucky
  • Mountain Area – Tom Camerlo of Florence, Colorado; and Ellis Roberts of Preston, Idaho
  • Northeast Area – Lewis Gardner of Galeton, Pennsylvania; Jerrel Heatwole of Greenwood, Delaware; and David Crowl of Street, Maryland
  • Southeast – James “Mickey” Childers of Somerville, Alabama; Mike Ferguson of Senatobia, Mississippi; Glen Easter of Laurens, South Carolina; Gordon McCool of Gilmer, Texas; Randy Mooney of Rogersville, Missouri; and Lloyd Phillips of Radford, Virginia
  • Southwest Area – Charles Beckendorf of Tomball, Texas; Larry Hancock of Muleshoe, Texas; and Wayne Palla of Clovis, New Mexico

Western Area – George Mertens of Sonoma, California; and Fred Schakel of Tipton, California

DFA’s Board also elected its 2007 slate of officers. Tom Camerlo, a dairy farmer from Florence, Colorado, was re-elected to serve another one-year term as DFA’s chairman of the Board. Camerlo has served as DFA’s chairman since March of 2003.
