DFA Employees Receive Workplace Recognition

May 18, 2011

KANSAS CITY, Mo.– Five employees of Dairy Farmers of America, Inc.’s (DFA) Global Dairy Products Group (GDPG) were recognized for their work as part of GDPG’s Employee Recognition and Reward Program at the Food and Employee Safety Conference held in Kansas City, Mo.

GDPG encompasses DFA’s Consumer Brands, Contract Manufacturing and Ingredients Divisions. The Employee Recognition and Reward Program recognizes employees who have demonstrated excellence within one of GDPG’s four key areas of focus — quality, service, safety and continuous improvement.

"The value of employees who introduce new methods to improve the Cooperative is immeasurable,” said Mark Korsmeyer, president of GDPG and executive vice president of DFA. “They challenge each and every one of us to improve and move the company to a higher standard.”

Employee recognition winners include:

Dawn Amundson — Zumbrota, Minn.

Amundson serves as program coordinator for GDPG’s Safe Quality Foods (SQF) Level 3 certification initiative. Her leadership, expertise and ability to multitask have been instrumental in the success of SQF implementation across six DFA plants to date.

Tom Baker — Turlock, Calif.

Baker was proactive about accident prevention and helped establish a safe work place. Through the end of 2010, the Turlock plant had achieved 545 days without an Occupational Safety and Health Administration recordable incident and went 1,425 days with no lost-time accidents.

Steven Hatten and Pam Rupp — Ventura, Calif.

Hatten and Rupp worked as a team with site operators to develop a “train-the-trainer” program, which instructs and trains equipment operators to become certified master trainers. In doing so, they set a new standard for quality training and team member development.

Luann Norris — Winnsboro, Texas

Norris played a critical role in preparing the DFA Winnsboro, Texas, plant’s weekly, monthly and yearly butter plans that balance raw material supply needs versus sales. She also was responsible for ensuring customer sales needs were met on a weekly basis and consistently exceeded customer expectations.
