Facts about DFA Northeast Area

The Northeast Area of Dairy Farmers of America, Inc. (DFA) serves a milkshed extending into 10 states. DFA’s Northeast Area represents 1,693 member farms that market 3.0 billion pounds of milk cooperatively. Average production per member farm is 1.8 million pounds of milk per year.

Northeast Area Council Governance Structure
The Northeast Area Council is made up of 13 districts. The members in each district select one representative each to serve on the Northeast Area Council and the Northeast Area resolutions committee. Because of DFA’s unique relationship with Dairylea Cooperative Inc. and St. Albans Cooperative Creamery, each select members to sit on the Area Council as well. The Area Council monitors the marketing of member milk and provides advice to the Corporate Board of Directors in matters pertaining to the Area. The Area Council selects five of its members to serve on the DFA Board of Directors. Each Co-op member also gets a seat on the DFA Corporate Board. The elected Area resolutions committee members help determine policy guidelines for the Board and select five members to serve on DFA’s corporate resolution’s committee. Members also chose Delegates to represent them when a member vote is necessary. The Northeast Area sends one delegate for each fifty farms to vote on necessary matters at the DFA Annual Meeting.
