Facts about DFA Mideast Area

The Mideast Area of Dairy Farmers of America, Inc. (DFA) serves a milkshed extending into 6 states. DFA’s Mideast Area represents 2,188 member farms that market more than 4.43 billion pounds of milk cooperatively. Average production per member farm is 2 million pounds of milk per year.

Mideast Area Council Governance Structure
The Mideast Area Council is divided into 18 districts. The members in each district select one representative to serve on the Mideast Area Council and the Mideast Area resolutions committee. The Area Council monitors the marketing of member milk and provides advice to the Corporate Board of Directors in matters pertaining to the Area. From these 18 council representatives, eight members are elected to serve on the DFA Board of Directors. The 18 elected Area resolutions committee members help determine policy guidelines for the Board and select 8 members to serve on DFA’s corporate resolution’s committee. Members also chose delegates to represent them when a member vote is necessary. The Mideast Area sends one delegate for each 50 farms to vote on necessary matters at the DFA Annual Meeting.
