Facts about DFA Mountain Area

The Mountain Area of Dairy Farmers of America, Inc. (DFA) serves a milkshed extending into 8 states. DFA’s Mountain Area represents 469 member farms that market more than 4.8 billion pounds of milk cooperatively. Average production per member farm is 10.2 million pounds of milk per year.

Mountain Area Council Governance Structure
The Mountain Area Council is made up of 19 districts. The members in each district select one director each to serve on the Mountain Area Council, and two more are elected “at-large.” The Area Council monitors the marketing of member milk and provides advice to the Corporate Board of Directors in matters pertaining to the Area. From these 21 council directors, 4 members are elected to serve on the DFA Corporate Board of Directors. In addition to the area council board the membership elects 21 elected Area representatives to help determine policy guidelines for the Corporate Board and selects 4 members to serve on DFA’s corporate resolution’s committee. Area representatives also serve as Delegates when a member vote is necessary. The Mountain Area sends one delegate for each fifty farms to vote on necessary matters at the DFA Annual Meeting.
