Tom Camerlo
Chairman of the Board

MOUNTAIN

Tom has been the owner of Camerlo Dairy since 1963 and chairman of DFA’s Board of Directors since 2003. Tom also is a member of DFA’s Executive Committee. He is a member of the board for Dairy Management Inc. and the Western Dairy Farmers Promotion Association. He chairs the U.S. Dairy Export Council and was reappointed by the Secretary of Agriculture and the U.S. Trade Ambassador to the Agricultural Policy Advisory Committee for Trade. Named Colorado Livestock Producer of the Year in 1994 and the World Dairy Expo Dairyman of the Year in 2003, he also was inducted into the Colorado Agriculture Hall of Fame in 2001.

Bill Siebenborn
Vice Chairman of the Board

CENTRAL

Bill and his wife milk 100 cows on a 340-acre farm, where they have utilized intensive grazing for the past 15 years. He is vice chairman of DFA’s Board of Directors. He also is the chairman of the United Dairy Industry Association and vice chairman of the Midwest Dairy Association. Additionally, he is a member of the board for Agriculture Future of America.

Randy Mooney
First Vice Chairman of the Board

SOUTHEAST

Randy and his wife operate M&M Dairy with a partner in southwestern Missouri. Randy is first vice chairman of DFA’s Board of Directors, a member of DFA’s Executive Committee and chairman of the Southeast Area Council. He also is chairman of National Milk Producers Federation and serves on the boards of several dairy organizations, including Missouri Dairy Association, Missouri State Milk, Southern Marketing Agency, Dairy Cooperative Marketing Association, Inc., Milk Processor Education Program and Dairy Promotion, Inc.

Keith Broumley

SOUTHWEST

Keith started in the dairy business in 1981 and milks 1,000 cows with his two sons. He serves as a DFA representative on the Greater Southwest Agency Board, National Milk Producers Federation Animal Health Committee and the Dairy Cooperative Marketing Agency Board. Keith has been a Hico Independent School District trustee for 10 years.

Joyce Bupp

NORTHEAST

Dairying since 1964, Joyce and her husband milk 200 cows and farm 750 acres of corn, alfalfa, soybeans, small grain and grass hay. She is a member of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Board for her area, Pennsylvania Dairy Stakeholders, Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association Board, Pennsylvania Holstein Association and Dairy Council. She has been a farm column writer since 1980 for Lancaster Farming and The York Sunday News.

James "Mickey" Childers

SOUTHEAST

Mickey milks 700 cows in partnership with his two sons and father-in-law on a fourth-generation dairy farm. They grow 800 acres of no-till corn, graze 1,500 acres and manage 2,000 acres of timberland. He is president of the American Dairy Association of Alabama and is secretary of the Southeast United Dairy Industry Association board of directors. Mickey was appointed to the Alabama Governor’s Commission on the Future of Family Farming, Agriculture, and Agribusiness.

 David Crowl

NORTHEAST

As the fourth generation to farm on the family land, David and his two sons milk 200 cows and operate a custom forage-harvesting business. David’s family has been a part of DFA and its predecessor cooperatives for 60 years. He serves as a director of the Deer Creek Scenic River Advisory Board. He also is a life member of the University of Maryland Alumni Association and is an elder at his church.

 Glen Easter

SOUTHEAST

Glen has been in the dairy business for more than 30 years and, in addition to milking 300 Jerseys on 360 acres, has a 100-cow-calf beef operation. Glen is president of both the Regional United Dairy Herd Improvement Association and the Advisory Committee of the Dairy Records Processing Center in Raleigh. He is an active member of the South Carolina Farm Bureau Dairy Committee, the American Jersey Cattle Club, the National All-Jersey and the Dairy Shrine, and also is a delegate to Southeast United Dairy Industry Association. He serves on the South Carolina National Animal Identification System Steering Committee. In 2006, he was named Laurens County Agriculturalist of the Year and Laurens County Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Quarter.

 Craig Edler

CENTRAL

Craig is a former DFA Young Cooperator and represents DFA on the Environmental Protection Agency Dairy Task Force and the Wisconsin Animal Identification Consortium. Craig also is a member of Wisconsin’s Dairy Business Association. Craig and his wife have been in the dairy business for 32 years. They operate a 550-cow dairy, farm 1,000 acres of crops, and own and operate a milling company and a manure-injection business.

Michael Ferguson

SOUTHEAST

Farming since 1978, Mike milks 110 cows on a 350-acre forage-based dairy. Mike also is president of the Tate County Farm Bureau, member of the State Farm Bureau Board, director of Southeast United Dairy Industry Association and vice chairman of the Mississippi American Dairy Association. Mike is on the Mississippi State Dairy Advisory Committee and is chairman of the finance committee at his church.

Tom Croner

Secretary/Treasurer

MIDEAST

Tom farms 700 acres and milks 200 cows with his son. He has been in the dairy business and a member of a cooperative since 1964. Tom currently serves as the secretary/treasurer of DFA’s Board of Directors and chairman for the Mideast Area Council. He is a member of DFA’s Executive Committee. He also serves as chairman of the boards for MidAm Capital and Pennsylvania Dairy Promotion Program and is on the board of Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association. In addition, he is the treasurer of the Penwest Conference of the United Church of Christ.

Larry Frederick

CENTRAL

In partnership with his two sons and wife, Larry farms 1,000 acres of corn, soybeans, alfalfa and grass hay. He and his family also have beef cows and 88 dairy cows. He serves as a member of the board of Roberts Dairy Co. and of the Midwest Dairy Association. In addition, Larry is secretary of the St. Louis Division of the Midwest Dairy Association.

Lewis Gardner

NORTHEAST

In addition to milking 200 cows and growing corn, hay, wheat, barley and soybeans on 900 acres with his two sons and wife, Lew is a member of the boards of Agricultural Cooperative Development International and the Pennsylvania Dairy Promotion Program. He also serves as an elder at his church.

Buster Goff

SOUTHWEST

Buster milks 5,000 Holsteins and 2,600 Jerseys with his wife and son. He is a member of his county’s water board. Buster has been the recipient of the New Mexico Agriculturalist of the Year, received the New Mexico Entrepreneurial Award and was honored by the College of the Southwest with the Free Enterprise Award.

Don Gurtner

MIDEAST

Don milks 100 Holsteins and farms 650 acres with his wife, son and daughter-in-law. He is a member of the United Dairy Industry Association Board. He also serves as president of the Milk Promotion Services of Indiana and as secretary/treasurer of Steuben County Rural Electric Co-op. Don is former president of the Steuben Dairy Herd Improvement Association and former secretary of the DeKalb and Steuben Artificial Breeding Association.

Dean Handy

NORTHEAST

Dean’s Handyhills farm is a seventh-generation bicentennial farm, owned and operated as a joint venture. The main farm consists of milking and grain facilities. Combined with patriarchal and grand patriarchal farms and rented land, Handyhills milks 100 cows and has 1,300 acres of corn, grain, silage, high moisture ear corn, beans, alfalfa and grass for forage. Dean serves as chairman of his town planning board.

Brian Hardy

MOUNTAIN

Brian owns his farm with his father and three brothers. Together, they milk 1,700 cows on three different dairies and farm 1,000 acres of their own land and 1,500 acres of additional land. Brian has been active on many boards, including the Utah Dairymen’s Association, Bear River Valley Co-op and several agricultural-related committees for Utah State University.

Les Hardesty

MOUNTAIN

Les and his wife milk 650 cows and farm 300 acres of forage crops. Les is chairman of DFA’s Mountain Area Council and is on DFA’s Executive Committee. He is chairman of the National Dairy Council and is a member of National Milk Producers Federation, serving as its political action committee chairman.

 Larry Hancock

Larry, his son and daughter milk 2,100 cows on 2,500 acres. They grow corn, wheat and forage on 1,400 irrigated acres, raise their own replacement herd and have a beef cow-calf operation. Larry serves on the National Dairy Promotion and Research Board and the Dairy MAX Board. He also is a member of the Texas Association of Dairymen and the Texas Cattle Producers Board.

Jerrel Heatwole

Jerrel and his wife have been dairying since 1984, and they also manage a poultry operation. Vice chairman of DFA’s Board of Directors, Jerrel is a member of DFA’s Executive Committee and chairman of the Northeast Area Council. Jerrel also serves as treasurer of the Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association and is a member of the United Dairy Industry Association and Dairy Management Inc. boards.

Bill Herr

CENTRAL

Bill and his wife farm 750 acres of corn and soybeans and milk 85 registered Holsteins. Bill also is active in the community and serves on the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board and the Clark County Economic Development Committee and is president of the Greenwood Schools Board of Education. He was honored with the FFA Outstanding Service Award for Alumni.

Kent Herman

SOUTHEAST

Kent operates Herman Dairy Farm, Inc. with his father and brother, and they are assisted by Kent’s son in milking 400 cows. They also raise 250 beef cattle and 275,000 chickens and plant row crops and hay on more than 1,000 acres. Kent is a member of the board of North Carolina ADA/Southeast United Dairy Industry Association, Inc.

Keith Huber

MIDEAST

A dairy farmer for more than 50 years, Keith milks 85 cows and raises 1,000 acres of corn, beans, wheat and hay in partnership with his son. He also is actively involved in Milk Promotion Services of Indiana. Keith is president of his County Farm Bureau and is a member of his area’s Soil and Water Board.

Steve Matthees

CENTRAL

Steve milks 240 cows and farms 800 acres of corn and alfalfa hay in partnership with his son, daughter and son-in-law. He is a member of U.S. Congressman John Kline’s Agricultural Advisory Board and sits on the Minnesota/Wisconsin Two State Dairy Committee for Cooperative Networks. He has hosted U.S. Agricultural Trade Representative Allen Johnson to a trade forum on his farm to discuss international trade agreements and participated in open forums that were held to collect information to help formulate the 2008 Farm Bill.

Ralph McNall

NORTHEAST

Ralph’s dairy farm has been in the family for 125 years. He and his sons milk 150 Holsteins on 333 acres and their operation was named the Vermont Dairy Farm of the Year in 2006. They received a similar honor, the Franklin County Dairy of the Year, in 1983. Ralph is the president and past vice president of St. Albans Cooperative Creamery, Inc., and a member of the New England Dairy Promotion Board and of the CWT Committee on the National Milk Producers Federation Board. Ralph is a trustee for his church.

Pete Mensonides

WESTERN

Pete milks 450 cows on 80 acres of land and raises all of his own replacements. He has served on several boards in California, including Cal Gold Cooperative, Dairy Marketing Cooperative and Modesto Milling Feed Cooperative. He currently serves on his local church board.

 Urban Mescher

MIDEAST

Urban began his career in dairy farming with his father in the late 1950s. He and his wife, together with two of their seven children, milk 200 Holsteins and raise corn, soybeans, wheat and alfalfa on 900 acres. He is on the milk promotion board of the American Dairy Association/Dairy Council Mideast and the boards of the Mideast Milk Marketing Agency, Mid America Cooperative Board, Universal Cooperative Board, C.F. Industries and the Marion Township Charities Committee. He is chairman of Mercer Landmark Cooperative and a board member of the Marion Mutual Insurance Company.

George Mertens

WESTERN

George milks 650 to 700 cows with his two sons, and he and his family farm 1,700 acres of silage and hay. George is vice chairman of DFA’s Board of Directors, a member of DFA’s Executive Committee and chairman of the Western Area Council.

Greg Mitchell

SOUTHWEST

Greg’s father started the family’s dairy in 1955 with 80 cows – processing and delivering all milk. Today, Greg milks 1,600 cows and farms approximately 860 acres. All replacements are raised on site to maintain closed herd status. Greg is on the board of the Texas Association of Dairymen.

Dwight Nash

MIDEAST

Dwight, his wife, son and daughter-in-law milk 190 cows on their 1,000-acre dairy farm. He serves on the Michigan Governor’s TB Task Force, Michigan State University’s (MSU) Stakeholder’s Committee, the MSU Agricultural Programs Advisory Board, as well as the MSU Animal Industry Initiative. He also is a director of the United Dairy Industry of Michigan. Dwight is a member of the Michigan Farm Bureau and is community group president and a member of their Legislative Candidate Selection Committee. He also is involved with the FFA Alumni Association, Governor’s Dairy Marketing Committee and United Dairy Industry of Michigan.

Doug Nuttelman

CENTRAL

Doug farms 2,000 acres of corn, soy beans and alfalfa and milks 185 cows with three sons. Doug is chairman of the Central Area Council and a member of DFA’s Executive Committee. He also is a member of the National Dairy Promotion and Research Board, the National Milk Producers Federation and the Nebraska Dairy Council. He is the recipient of the Proud to be a Nebraska Farmer Award.

Wayne Palla

Wayne and his son have an integrated farm operation with dairy, farming and cattle ranching. Wayne is vice chairman of DFA’s Board of Directors, a member of DFA’s Executive Committee and chairman of the Southwest Area Council. He is on the National Milk Producers Federation Board and the U.S. Dairy Export Council.

Jerry Peterson

MIDEAST

Jerry has been in the dairy business since 1976. He’s been the sole owner of his dairy operation since 1986, milking 250 cows and farming 700 acres of corn and alfalfa. He has served as an emergency medical technician since 1982 with his local ambulance service.

Ron Pietersma

WESTERN

Ron operates Legend Dairy Farms, a 3,200-cow dairy operation at two locations in Chino, California. He also is a partner in two other dairies, Storm’s Oasis Dairy in Fallon, Nevada, and Edgewater Farms in Chino. In addition, he is the owner of Pietersma & Company, a brokerage firm. He has received recognition and several honors for his contributions and services to the California dairy industry.

Larry Purdom

SOUTHEAST

Larry and his daughter milk 140 cows, grow corn silage and hay, and raise a small herd of beef cows on 700 acres. Larry is on the boards of the Missouri Dairy Association and Midwest Dairy Promotion Board. Active in the industry, he is on the National Dairy Board, county Farm Bureau Board and is chairman of the Congressional Agriculture Advisory Committee. He was honored with the FFA American Farmer Degree and as an Honorary Star Farmer. He also has won grand champions and premier breeder and exhibitor awards.

 Jeff Raney

MIDEAST

Jeff’s dairy operation is a family business, with his son and daughter-in-law and daughter and son-in-law involved in the 50-cow dairy. In addition to breeding and showing Holsteins, they raise corn, soybeans, hay and pasture land on 300 acres. He also is active on several boards, including Ag Choice Farm Credit ACA, Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association and Pennsylvania Dairy Promotion.

 Ellis Roberts

MOUNTAIN

Ellis owns and operates a 250-Holstein dairy with his son. They farm 400 acres of land and operate an intensive grazing operation. Ellis is a member of the Advisory Committee to the College of Agriculture at Utah State University and a member of the Idaho United Dairymen. He works with youth groups at his church.

 George Rohrer

George and his brother farm 140 acres of land and milk 120 cows. They double crop corn and rye, as well as grow some alfalfa. He serves on the boards for the Virginia ADA, United Dairy Herd Improvement Association and the Virginia State Dairymen Association.

Terry Rowlett

MIDEAST

In a family partnership with his wife and father, Terry milks 120 cows and raises corn silage, grain, tobacco and grass hay on 600 acres. Terry is president of the Henry County Farm Bureau, state director of Kentucky Farm Bureau, president of American Dairy Association of Kentucky, and a member of the board of directors for the Southeast United Dairy Industry Association. He also is a commissioner on the Henry County Planning and Zoning Board.

Clyde Rutherford

NORTHEAST - DAIRYLEA

Clyde is a partner in two dairies and is helping younger dairymen enter the business. Clyde has served as president of Dairylea since 1978. He serves as vice chairman of the board of directors of National Milk Producers Federation and vice chairman of Dairy One. He is a director for U.S. Dairy Export Council and on the Executive Committee of Empire Livestock Marketing, LLC and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Central New York. He also is on the board of O-AT-KA Milk Products Cooperative, Inc.

Ed Schoen

NORTHEAST

Ed and his partner milk 180 cows and farm 600 acres on a third-generation farm. He is director of the Northeast Dairy Marketing Services Board. Ed is the New York Milk Promotion Board vice chairman, and chair of the Cornell Food Science Subcommittee and member of the subcommittee for Economic Evaluation. He is a member of the Northeast Cooperative Council and formerly served as its president. He also is a delegate to the North American/European Union Conference.

Dan Senestraro

Beginning his dairy career in California, Dan relocated to Kansas in 1994, where he and his wife farm 850 acres and milk 3,200 cows. They also raise corn, wheat and sorghum. He serves on the board at his church.

Larry Shover

CENTRAL

Larry milks 85 registered Holsteins, farms 1,040 acres and operates an independent farrow-to-finish swine operation with his wife and mother. Larry is active outside of DFA and serves as treasurer of the Iowa Division Midwest Dairy Association, is a member of Midwest Dairy Association and Dairy Lab Services boards and chairman of the ADA of the Midwest. He was a founder and is currently a board member of the Northeast Iowa Dairy Foundation. He is an Iowa Distinguished Dairyman and Iowa State University Dairy Science Club honorary member and has received Conservation Farm, 4-H and Delaware County Dairy Council service awards and is a FFA Honorary Chapter Farmer.

Jerry Spencer

SOUTHEAST

In the dairy business since 1970, Jerry farms 476 acres of land and milks 175 cows. He raises all of his own replacements and grows coastal Bermuda hay. He has spent the last few years on the board of the Texas Agricultural Cooperative Council. He is the committee chairman for the Texas Association of Dairymen Public Relations Committee. He also serves on the Texas Beef Council and the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association Board.

Sanford "Sandy" Stauffer

NORTHEAST - DAIRYLEA

Sandy milks 700 cows on 2,500 acres in partnership with his two sons. Sandy also grows corn, alfalfa and grass hay. He serves on the Agri-Max Advisory Council and is a member of the Dairylea Cooperative board. He also is on the board of the Northeast Cooperative Council and the American Dairy Association and Dairy Council. He is secretary of the National Dairy Board and serves on its Industry Priorities Committee. He is a member of Farm Bureau and Cooperative Extension of St. Lawrence County. He is a member of Mennonite Economic Development Associates, an association of businesswomen and men who invest in the lives of families living in poverty around the world.

 Perry Tjaarda

WESTERN

Perry, in a partnership with his wife and parents, milks 3,700 cows. He also grows wheat and corn for silage, raises all his own replacement stock and farms almond trees on 900 acres. Perry is on the California Milk Advisory Board and is dairy chairman for the Kern County Fair. He and his family were named DFA 2009 Members of Distinction for the Western Area.

 Charles Untz

CENTRAL

Charles and his son, Jason, milk 140 cows on 850 acres and have a second facility for young stock a half mile from their dairy. He is a member of Holstein Association USA, the Frontier F.S. Cooperative and is on the Wisconsin Federation of Cooperatives Committee.

 Case Van Steyn

WESTERN

Case milks about 1,150 cows on three locations with his brother and son. They raise corn silage, as well as winter forage for silage, in addition to alfalfa. Case is active in his community, serving on the boards of Calamco (fertilizer cooperative), Sacramento County Fair, Sacramento County Farm Bureau and the Sacramento County Agriculture Advisory Committee.

 Rod Wenstrom

CENTRAL

Rod and his wife operate Raw-Saw Dairy Farm, where they milk 56 cows on 560 acres. They also raise corn, alfalfa, wheat and soybeans. He serves as president of the West Otter Tail Soil and Water Board and as director for West Minnesota Rural Conservation and Development. He is a past president of the West Otter Tail Dairy Herd Improvement Association and serves on the Agriculture Advisory Committee for the Otter Tail County Commissioners.

Rob Wonderlich

CENTRAL

Rob milks 275 cows and raises corn, soybeans, alfalfa and pasture grass on a 750-acre farm. Rob is on the Iowa Dairy Nutrition Advisory Committee and the Pekin Community Dollars for Scholars Board. He is a deacon and moderator at his church. He was named a Star Farmer for southeast Iowa.

Tom Woods

CENTRAL

As a partner in his dairy, Tom milks 120 cows. He reserves part of his 1,500 acres for grazing and raises wheat and hay on the rest. He is active outside of DFA and serves on the boards of Dairy MAX and the Oklahoma Promotion Board and on a committee for Dairy Management Inc. He’s been an election official for local and county elections in his area for 20 years.
