Who We Are

As part of our overall strategy, we are continuously looking for new opportunities to grow our commercial investments and position DFA as a global foods leader. While our farmer-members remain the foundation of everything we do, we are focused on building customer relationships and partnering with others in the food and dairy industries. DFA manufactures a variety of products and ingredients for export to 46 countries across six continents. Whether delivering dairy to consumers on the local, national or global level, our priority is to provide nutritious, wholesome products to families around the world.

There is great strength in our diverse membership, from farm sizes big and small to an assortment of business models. We are proud to support some of the hardest working people on earth. We are privileged to work in an industry that nourishes communities across the country and feeds people around the world. People make the difference. The diversity of experiences and backgrounds connects us to the needs of our farmer-members, customers and consumers. DFA continues to develop future leaders from all backgrounds by fostering talent, strengthening staff awareness and engagement, challenging and encouraging staff, and following our mission and values. We are leaders — locally, regionally, nationally and globally.

We take a disciplined, thoughtful and strategic approach to growth, including internal growth of existing businesses and acquisitions. We actively seek partners — from customers, industry organizations, member groups and more — who share our values and are interesting in delivering on our mission and strategic plan.

Domestically, we have grown sales of our brands, such as Borden® Cheese, Plugrá® Butter, Kemps®, Guida’s Dairy®, Cache Valley® Creamery and more. We also continue to strengthen our brand portfolio through the acquisition of Cumberland Dairy, a Bridgeton, N.J.-based company that processes ultra-pasteurized dairy products, which allowed DFA to expand our commercial investments into extended shelf life processing.

We recently opened a new state-of-the-art dairy ingredients plant in Garden City, Kan., to support the continued growth in the Southwest region and meet rising demand for U.S. dairy both domestically and globally. Beyond the ability to trace the product from the time it leaves the farm to the product’s arrival at the store, the Garden City plant focuses on sustainability, including operating as a water-neutral facility.

Through our Beverage and Dairy Foods Division, we work with leading food and beverage companies to develop and produce high-quality products like coffee-based beverages, cheese and dairy dips, and salsa.
